Where Is Mallayan Spout?
Mallayan Spout is a 20-foot waterfall located just outside the moorland village of Goathland, about 17 miles (35 minutes by car) from The Lodge in Burniston. Hidden within a wooded gorge, it's one of the few named waterfalls in the North York Moors and a real hidden gem for walkers and nature lovers alike.
Where to Park
Park in the Goathland village car park (postcode: YO22 5LY). This pay-and-display car park is centrally located, with toilets and a nearby tearoom. It’s the ideal starting point for the circular walk.
The Circular Walk to Mallayan Spout
Walk Details:
Distance: Approx. 3 miles / 5 km
Time: 1.5 to 2 hours
Difficulty: Moderate – includes uneven terrain and some inclines
Route Guide:
From the car park, head towards Beck Hole, a quaint hamlet with historic cottages and the tiny Birch Hall Inn.
Cross over the stone bridge and follow signs upstream along West Beck.
After a short woodland walk, you’ll reach Mallayan Spout Waterfall – flowing gracefully through mossy rocks into the beck below. It’s especially impressive after rainfall.
Continue the circular route by climbing up through the woods and returning to Goathland across open moorland, with stunning views along the way.
The trail brings you back into Goathland village near the Mallyan Spout Hotel.
