Whitby Goth Weekend brings thousands of visitors to the Yorkshire Coast for a weekend of extraordinary fashion, live music, alternative markets and people-watching against perhaps the most fitting backdrop imaginable.

What is Whitby Goth Weekend?
The legendary Whitby Goth Weekend is one of the UK’s most iconic alternative festivals, held twice a year in the historic seaside town of Whitby. The Spring 2026 event runs from Friday 1st May to Sunday 3rd May 2026.
Inspired in part by Dracula—which famously features Whitby—the festival celebrates goth, punk, steampunk, and alternative fashion and music.

Whitby Goth Weekend began in 1994 and has grown into one of the best-known alternative events in the UK. Today, the town fills with goths, punks, steampunks and visitors who simply come to experience the atmosphere.
You don't have to dress up to go. In fact, wandering Whitby's streets and watching the town transform is half the fun.

Why Whitby?
Whitby's gothic associations go far beyond the festival.
Bram Stoker stayed in the town in 1890, and Whitby famously became part of the setting for Dracula. The ruined Abbey high above the harbour, St Mary's Churchyard and the narrow streets below helped make Whitby an enduring destination for people drawn to gothic culture.
During Goth Weekend, it feels particularly appropriate.
The Lodge in Burniston, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and coastal countryside. This tranquil setting offers the perfect place to unwind after a busy day at Whitby Goth Weekend, combining comfort, quiet, and easy access to Whitby.
Staying outside Whitby
Whitby is incredibly busy during Goth Weekend, so you don't necessarily need to stay in the town itself.
The Lodge is in Burniston, between Scarborough + Whitby, giving you a quieter base on the Yorkshire Coast with Whitby around 25 minutes away by car.
Better still, the X93/X94 bus route runs through Burniston towards Whitby, so you can leave the car behind.
Spend the day amongst the crowds, markets and costumes, then come back to your own cabin amongst the trees.
From Goth Weekend to quiet
After Whitby's packed streets, The Lodge feels like a complete change of pace.
Make coffee. Run the outdoor bath. Put your robes on. Sit amongst the trees. Then do it all again the following morning.
You're close enough to make Whitby the reason for the trip without having to spend the entire weekend in the middle of it.
Make a weekend of it
If you're staying for more than one night, Goth Weekend doesn't have to be the whole trip.
Walk a stretch of the Cleveland Way, explore Robin Hood's Bay, stop at Hayburn Wyke waterfall or spend a slow morning back at The Lodge before heading into Whitby later in the day.
That's the advantage of staying between the Yorkshire Coast + North York Moors rather than right in the centre of town.
