Alpamare Wellness Spa // Scarborough
You don't have to travel far from The Lodge for a proper spa afternoon.
Alpamare UK sits overlooking Scarborough’s North Bay, just down the coast from Burniston. Beyond the waterpark is its Alpine-inspired Wellness Spa, with saunas, steam, spa rituals and an outdoor infinity pool looking out towards the sea.
It’s one of our recommendations for a slower afternoon during your stay, particularly when the Yorkshire weather isn't quite playing along.
Panorama Sauna // Finnish-style heat with views across Scarborough’s North Bay.
Sea View Sauna // Sauna, sea air + a view of the Yorkshire Coast.
Hay Bath // A warm, quiet space designed for deep relaxation.
Sauna with a sea view //
The highlight for us is the Panorama Sauna, a traditional Finnish sauna heated to around 90°C, with views over Scarborough's North Bay. There’s also a Hay Bath using hay harvested from North Yorkshire pastures, alongside an ice and aroma shower and foot reflexology bath.
Hot. Cold. Rest. Repeat.
Exactly our sort of afternoon.
Spa + infinity pool //
One of the things that makes Alpamare a little different from a traditional hotel spa is the setting.
There are heated outdoor pools, including an outdoor infinity pool overlooking the bay, so you can be outside in warm water even when the North Sea is looking decidedly less inviting.
Grey skies are almost better.
Try an Aufguss //
If you've never experienced an Aufguss sauna ceremony, Alpamare is a good place to try one.
The spa also offers a range of longer wellness rituals built around different areas of the spa. Current options include Hamam Relax and Sauna Vitality, with experiences lasting several hours.
It makes Alpamare somewhere you can easily spend an entire morning or afternoon rather than simply popping in for a swim.
Add a treatment //
If you want to make a proper spa day of it, there's a large treatment menu too.
Massages currently include relaxation, hot stone, bamboo, Indian head and Pro-Sleep treatments, alongside facials and body treatments. Treatments can be booked separately through the spa.
From spa to The Lodge //
This is an easy one to add to a stay.
Spend a few hours moving between sauna, steam and warm water overlooking North Bay, then make the short journey back up the coast to Burniston.
Shower. Robes. Coffee.
And if you're not quite finished with the water, run the outdoor bath and carry on.
