Our favourite cafés near The Lodge
Good coffee is an important part of a few days away.
Luckily, there are plenty of excellent independent cafés around The Lodge, from speciality coffee overlooking Scarborough’s South Bay to tiny bakeries, farm shops and one of our favourite little coffee stops right here in Burniston.
These are the places we actually recommend to guests.
Our favourite cafés near The Lodge // Six independent spots for good coffee, breakfast and homemade bakes around Burniston and Scarborough.
Brewed // Scarborough South Bay
Overlooking Scarborough’s South Bay, Brewed pairs speciality coffee with one of the best coffee-shop views on the Yorkshire Coast.
It’s a great stop before a walk along the seafront, and particularly good combined with a wander around the harbour and Scarborough Old Town.
From The Lodge: around 12 minutes by car
What to try: Flat white, smoothies, poached eggs and avocado on sourdough, and the pistachio blonde.
Bloom // Scarborough
A small independent bakery and coffee shop in Scarborough town centre, Bloom is one of our favourites when we’re heading into town.
Come for excellent coffee and stay for the counter of freshly baked cakes and sweet treats.
From The Lodge: around 10 minutes by car
What to try: Whatever has just come out of the oven, with a speciality coffee.
Wilsons Food Hall // Seamer
Part farm shop, part café and very easy to lose a little time in, Wilsons Food Hall is worth the trip if you love good local produce.
Alongside the café, you'll find plenty of Yorkshire-made and artisan food to take home with you.
From The Lodge: around 15 minutes by car
What to try: Coffee from Scarborough-based roastery Bold Brew and a browse of the local produce afterwards.
Celeste Coffee Trailer // Burniston
The closest on the list and a proper little local find.
Celeste Coffee Trailer is tucked away at Burniston Nurseries, just a couple of minutes from The Lodge. During the warmer months, it’s one of our favourite places to grab a freshly brewed coffee and something homemade.
Have a wander around the nursery while you're there.
From The Lodge: around 2 minutes by car or a 10-minute walk
What to try: Fresh coffee and one of the homemade bakes.
Forge Valley Kitchen // East Ayton
Surrounded by countryside, Forge Valley Kitchen is a relaxed café championing local ingredients and proper Yorkshire food.
It also makes a brilliant stop before or after exploring Forge Valley or heading further into the North York Moors.
From The Lodge: around 12 minutes by car
What to try: Yorkshire breakfast, homemade cakes and locally roasted coffee.
The Yew Tree // Scalby
Just down the road in pretty Scalby village, The Yew Tree is a lovely choice for a slower breakfast or afternoon coffee.
Recently refurbished, it has all the feel of a traditional village café and is close enough to The Lodge that you don't need to make a day of it.
From The Lodge: around 3 minutes by car
What to try: Full Yorkshire breakfast, homemade cakes or afternoon tea.
Make a morning of it //
Our pick? Head into Scarborough for coffee at Brewed, walk along South Bay and around the harbour, then follow the coast towards North Bay before heading back to Burniston.
Or, for something much closer to home, grab a coffee at Celeste, have a wander around Burniston Nurseries and be back at The Lodge before the coffee has had time to wear off.
There are plenty more places we love, but these are a few we find ourselves returning to again and again.
Staying at The Lodge Burniston puts you within easy reach of Scarborough, the Yorkshire Coast and the North York Moors, with some very good coffee along the way.
